This is the prettiest little hike. The cutoff to the trailhead is just outside the Carbon River Entrance to Mt. Rainier. The trail starts through a clear cut area and then moves into a thick canopy of second growth forest. This trail has FIELDS of Avalanche Lillies which are often still in bloom in July. The trail climbs gently to Summit Lake - a true alpine lake- wide, cold and crystal clear. On clear days, Mt. Rainier is reflected in the lake. We will hike around the lake, and up a ridge through wildflower meadows . If the weather is clear, there is a 306 degree view from the top. This is a naturalist hike and we will proceed at a pace that allows us to take pictures, collaboratively identify wild flowers and enjoy the scenery and environment.
