Summit Lake: 5 mi RT, Elevation Gain 1200 feet. Easy, Leisurely. Limit 12. Carpool will start in Olympia at 7:00am with a stop in Enumclaw to meet hikers from other branches. This is the prettiest little hike. The cutoff to the trailhead is just outside the Carbon River Entrance to Mt. Rainier. The trail starts through a clear cut area and then moves into a thick canopy of second growth forest. This trail has FIELDS of Avalanche Lillies which are often still in bloom in July. The trail climbs gently to Summit Lake - a true alpine lake- wide, cold and crystal clear. On clear days, Mt. Rainier is reflected in the lake. We will hike around the lake, and up a ridge through wildflower meadows . If the weather is clear, there is a 306 degree view from the top. This is a naturalist hike and we will proceed at a pace that allows us to take pictures, collaboratively identify wild flowers and enjoy the scenery and environment.
