We will start out the evening where the Incident Management / Risk Assessment starts. Will Greenough will be talking about what he does to prepare for a trip. This will include routing, tides and currents, who he is planning the trip for (what skill level), weather, emergency outs and other hazards along the way.
Next will be Henry Romer. Henry will discuss what he carries with him and in his boat for his on the water essentials also known as a kit. These are the essentials that can keep paddlers out of trouble or even get them back to safety.
Brian Hollander will follow up with boat rigging / placement of items such as pump, paddle float and spare paddles, along with towing and the different types of towing.
The last hour we will have story time. We might pull a story out of Sea Kayaker Deep Trouble and discuss what went right and what went wrong or we can even go to a real life story from any of the kayakers from the Olympia group and talk about what went right and what went wrong.
On Saturday June 9th we will be on and in the water and getting wet! We will Practice different rescues and towing, along with some scenarios. Who knows, we might have a shoulder dislocation a cut finger or even a heart attack. This will also be the perfect time to try that rescue you have heard about. Brush up on your towing skills and figure out what works and what does not before you really have to use it.
