Help protect the Alpine Lakes Wilderness while hiking this summer! The Alpine Lakes Weed Watchers Program trains volunteers to identify, map and control invasive species along backcountry trails and campsites. Volunteers gain skills in plant identification, enjoy scenic hikes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, and contribute important data to the U.S. Forest Service.

Alpine Lakes Weed Watchers is a partnership between The Mountaineers, King County Noxious Weed Program and the U.S. Forest Service. This project is made possible by a Wilderness Stewardship Challenge Grant from the National Forest Foundation, as well as matching contributions from The Mountaineers Foundation, Alpine Lakes Protection Society and other donors.

This training will provide an overview of invasive plant identification and survey methods for volunteers who wish to assist Alpine Lakes Weed Watchers with trail surveys during the 2012 field season.

Those wishing for more complete training to lead volunteers or conduct solo surveys should sign up for the June 3 Alpine Lakes Weed Watchers training.

Those who cannot attend the June 3 training can sign up for an alternate training on June 23 with King County's Middle Fork Sn... More
