Kids entering grades 1-7 (ages 6-12/13) join The Mountaineers for week-long adventure full of Mountaineers Activities! Kids will have a chance to try a variety of outdoor activities, which may include: climbing, hiking, kayaking, navigation, photography, outdoor cooking, first aid, shelter building, fire building or basic wilderness skills. Each week has it's own theme - click on each individual week to view the specifics of that week's theme. Each week will include fun games and activities, an earth stewardship component, and outdoor skills development, all led by skilled instructors. While each session allows for plenty of climbing time, we mix up other outdoor skills so that each session, campers get to learn something new! Camp is Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm. Field trip days may run longer - check with the specific week for more information. A sample of weekly schedule for Junior Mountaineers: Monday: Introductions, team building, climbing, swimming Tuesday: Games, leave no trace, map & compass, swimming Wednesday: Hiking field trip to Anderson Lakes, Photography Thursday: Kayaking in Lake Washington, climbing Friday: Scavenger Hunt and Family Day
July 22-26 is Survivor Week! Each day we'll learn survival skills that will help us stay safe in the wilderness. We'll learn about the 10 essentials and how to use the things we bring. We'll also learn primitive skills like shelter building, primitive fire building and navigation using natural devices. Our field trip will take us to Alderleaf Wilderness College, where their expert staff will spend the day teaching wilderness skills to each of the groups. The kids are sure to come home ready to teach the family new wilderness skills!
