This snowshoe course is a beginner level class. We provide a series of four lectures that include an orientation to back-country travel, avalanche awareness and safety, route selection, cold weather ailments, clothing, and equipment.
The Basic Snowshoeing Course offers an introduction to safe and enjoyable winter travel for the beginner. It is designed for people who want to get a taste of snowshoeing and pick up solid foundational skills. Topics of instruction will include selection and use of proper equipment, conditioning, what to rent, where to go, how to plan and evaluate snowshoe routes to avoid avalanche risk, winter travel, safety, and choosing an outing. Students will be eligible to participate in easy snowshoe tours with the confidence of having a foundation in winter travel.
The class is at the PUD building which is near the Pacific Exit from I5 in Everett making it convenient to I5 travelers.
The lectures are Wednesday January 16 and Thursday January 17, and the field trip is Saturday January 26.
