This course is designed to take a Sea Kayaker who is comfortable in rough, moving water to the river environment. In this course students will learn the basics of reading the river, boat control and strokes, the common hazards of a river and how to deal with them and other skills that will help with the transition from sea to river. While a roll is not a required skill for this class, it is a skill that will be strongly encouraged
The river. It calls to you, with it's burbling or rushing voice. you see it's waves, rapids and holes and wonder what it would be like to paddle down it, alas, the only kayaking you know is on the sea. Here is your chance to change that. Join Mark Baron, an ACA Level 4 White Water Instructor, for two days of learning to take those hard won skills on the sea to a new and exciting environment...the river. In this class you'll learn the differences between handling a sea kayak and a river boat, strokes and rescues techniques. For this class you will have to furnish your own equipment: An acceptable WW boat in acceptable shape with appropriate flotation, paddle, helmet, wetsuit or, preferably, a drysuit and a readiness to learn something new. While I am planning to use the Green River, this is subject to change based on flow rates and projections. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions that you may have.
