William S. Ashby   (Qualified Youth Leader)

Heybrook Ridge, Index WA

Thank you for volunteering, your help makes this course possible.

Please bring your compass, and maybe write your name on it since you might lend it to one of the students in your group. Answer keys for the student problems will be available at the Field Trip but if you have one from a previous Field Trip then please bring it. Come prepared as you would for a snowshoe or scramble trip, but leave your ice axe at home.

Normally there are two instructors per small student group, so if you're a new instructor or have only instructed once or twice then you can choose to be paired with an experienced instructor.
Instructor Training workshops are available for new instructors as well as experienced ones who haven't instructed for a few years. Click here for more information.

The parking area is small so please carpool by specifying your carpool preferences when you sign up.

In order to instruct you need to be a Basic Navigation Course graduate, but if you're not then you'll need to contact the Seattle Navigation Committee Chair to apply for special permission.
Thank you for volunteering online to instruct at a navigation field trip. It’s your help that makes this program possible.

Please be sure your e-mail address, home address and phone number are up-to-date in your Mountaineers “profile” so we can contact you and send you materials if needed.

We sincerely appreciate your help.

Additional information:

Carpooling to Heybrook Ridge is VERY strongly encouraged because there is limited parking on Mr. Muncer's land. You can use the Mountaineers carpooling system through the database, or arrange carpooling privately. A list of your fellow instructors will be sent out by email before each field trip.

If you wish to sign up for additional events, please do so through the web site: http://www.mountaineers.org/

Field trips start early - instructors usually arrive at Heybrook Ridge at 6:30 am. Instructor packets will be available at the field trip and will be sent as files upon request. mail if you do not instruct at a workshop. Come prepared as you would for a scramble or snowshoe trip, but without ice-axe. Be sure to bring your instructor packet.

If you need to change your plans (drop an event), please contact the field trip leader or wsashby@earthlink.net promptly.

Thanks again!
