In the Duffy Lake are of BC an hour or so north of Whistler, conditions here are generally cooler and drier than at Whistler. Hut sleeps up to 16 and is heated by kerosene heaters. Surrounding Marriot basin provides wide range of skiing options. Ski into the hut is about four miles and 1900ft elevation gain. Current fees for hut usage are 12 per person per night (less for Alpine Club of Canada members)
In the Duffy Lake are of BC an hour or so north of Whistler, conditions here are generally cooler and drier than at Whistler. Hut sleeps up to 16 and is heated by kerosene heaters and has a very well equipped kitchen. Surrounding Marriot basin provides wide range of skiing options, from steep slopes to easy touring. Ski into the hut is about four miles and 1700ft elevation gain. Current fees for hut usage are 12 per person per night (less for Alpine Club of Canada members) Shared dinners. Last year's trip here was super -- This is a really great area and the hut is comfortable – the insulation and kerosene heater makes it comfortable with only a 3 season sleeping bag. The kitchen is equipped well enough that there is no need to carry stoves and cooking gear -- so loads into the hut can be fairly light. The route into the hut is well marked and fairly easy skinning on the way in. Leaving the most of the descent is fairly easy with one steeper section in the trees. Intermediate level skiers should be able to descend this section using the old skool “kick turn traverses” method. Video from my Feb 2012 trip: http://vimeo.com/48488890
