Cooney Lake is called ‘the Jewel of the Sawtooths”. The lake is located just above timberline at 7241 feet and is sprinkled with larches that set the lake aglow in autumn. The waters mirror the cliffs of the cirque. Cooney Lake is one of the famed Golden Lakes nestled in a high cirque on the serrated Sawtooth Ridge on the eastern edge of the North Cascades. This backpack is a lollipop loop that will visit two of the Golden Lakes. Solitude can easily be found hiking these trails. Day 1: 8 miles; 3600 feet elevation Day 2: 9 miles; 600 feet elevation

Although open to all club members over age 18, this trip is also part of the B3 backpacking Building Blocks series and eligible for B3 course graduation credit. In addition, this backpack will have a practical instructional/learning focus and offer experience in proper gear use and camp set-up techniques.
