Cowiche Canyon is part of the rails to trails system. The trail follows a portion of an old 1880s railroad route. The Canyon is a conversancy and is a pristine walk through a natural canyon. It is an excellent site for flower and bird watching. A fairly new addition to the trail is a side trail going out of the canyon and leading to a winery with picnic grounds and tasting room.

Yakima. Mid-April to Mid-May are the prime times to view Eastern Washington wildflowers. We will carpool from Olympia, driving over I-90 to Yakima. We will stop in North Bend to meet hikers who are coming from the north. Cowiche Canyon is a nature conservancy just outside of Yakima. We will hike the 2.9 mile Cowiche Canyon Trail and take a .5 mile side trip on the newly developed Winery Trail that connects the Cowiche Canyon Trail with the Tasting Room Washington on Naches Height.
