Course Overview: The Coastal Kayak Surf Zone course is designed to teach paddlers the necessary skills to safely launch and land a kayak in the surf. Conditions should include small waves height less than 3 ft, ideally with spilling surf on a gently sloping beach clear of obstacles and swimmers. Winds should not exceed 15 knots.

This clinic is designed to teach the student basic surf zone sea kayak paddling skills (no surf boats or white water boats allowed). It is an introduction to transitioning from inland waters to paddling in open coastal conditions. The class will take place in surf up to 3 feet. The day will progress to paddling in and out through the surf zone (again depending on conditions) with a partially loaded boat. Dry suit, neoprene hood, gloves, and helmet required. Floatation bags are encouraged. A roll is not required, but comes in handy. You will get wet. A set of sand wheels also comes in handy. Discover pass required.
