Avalanche risk can be mitigated with good terrain choice, but this is not a trip suitable for high avalanche danger days.
NOTE: Priority goes to Seattle Backcountry Snowshoe Skills students.
This trip is ideally timed for Seattle Winter Camping students (and instructors) who intend to stay at the Baker Lodge on Friday evening before the Winter Camping field trip.
It is also a qualifying trip for Backcountry Snowshoe Skills certification. This is rated as a Moderate trip, so ice axes are required. If time and conditions allow, we may do a bit of ice axe arrest practice.
