The goal of this trip will be to scramble Bandera Mountain 5241’ via Little Bandera, point 5157’.

MEETING PLACE:

Meet inside the Issaquah Transit Center parking garage on the first floor in the Northeast corner at 7:00 AM.

REQUIRED GEAR:

- Ice Axe

- Snowshoes with aggressive crampons on the bottom such as MSR

- Helmet

-A way to carry your snowshoes on your pack, since we probably won't be wearing them at the beginning of the trip.

OPTIONAL GEAR:

- Avalanche beacon, shovel, probe, and the skills to use them are highly recommended but not required for participation.

-Poles with snow baskets are recommended but not required.

-Traction devices such as Microspikes or Yak tracks are recommended but not required.

ROUTE: From the side of the freeway at Exit 42 we’ll hike up the west side of Mason Creek. Upon reaching the summer road, we’ll follow it west until just before the parking lot. Here we’ll short-cut up the hill and catch the trail headed east. We will follow that trail about 100 yards until we’ve crossed Mason Creek. Then we will follow the route of the “OLD Mason Lake trail” along the creek, through the forest, towards Mason Lake. This old trail is shown on the USGS map. About halfway to Mason Lake we’ll break from the trail and continue traveling in an easterly direction along the ridge to Little Bandera, point 5157. Assuming time, party strength, and weather are good, we’ll continue on to Bandera 5241’. We can return via the same route or drop down to the lakes and make a loop trip. Time and snow conditions will determine. Plan for a full day in the mountains.
