If you’ve never been there, it’s really a stunning location above the Columbia River and near the Gorge Amphitheater. The rock climbing on the Sunshine Wall is made up of tall pillars and vertical cracks. Unfortunately, the trail along the Sunshine Wall is in bad shape, and the WCC is prioritizing this area.
The work planned will take place Saturday and will be optional on Sunday. If you just want to climb, that’s fine. I will dismiss you from the trip with full credit for the Saturday work day. We plan to replace worn terrace with steps and a bulkhead to prevent erosion. This will be hard work, but you will have the satisfaction of seeing the fruit of your labor in a high visibility climbing area for many years to come.
Camping should be optimal with cooking over fire. Though, camping amenities are on the primitive side. Bring the three essentials – Firewood, a camp chair and beer. For the work day, wear boots, long pants, long shirt, work gloves, helmet and eye protection. A Discover Pass or WDFW parking pass is required for vehicle parking. Any with sense will drive up and camp on Friday night.
