This trip is designed for new hikers who want to step lightly into their first hike. We will hike for about 3 miles in Ravenna Park, a woodsy oasis in a ravine near the University of Washington, picking up 100-200 feet of elevation gain (and loss) along the way. Not quite sure if you're properly equipped to go on a hike in the Cascades? Still have questions after attending the Beginning Hiking Seminar? Then this is the hike for you!

Come prepared as you would for a typical day hike, including appropriate clothing and your 10 Essentials. Here is a link to a trail map. We will take the time to discuss and compare different gear choices, including pulling everything out of your leader's pack. This trip is a learning opportunity, with no penalty for lacking a piece of gear, so don't be afraid to show up if you think you're missing an item. This is also a good chance to start breaking in that new pair of boots.
We'll meet at 8am at the picnic shelter which is adjacent to the small parking lot accessed off of the intersection of NE 58th Street and 20th Ave NE. There is street parking nearby if the lot is full. Link to Google Map. (Also adjacent to the #30 bus route.) Make sure to check directions, because this lot is kind of tucked away. It shouldn't be difficult to find us when you get there, just look for the group milling around with backpacks. We'll hike RAIN or shine, and should be done by lunchtime.
