Visit a trio of scenic lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, with views of Big Snow Mountain. Dorothy Lake is scenic, but crowded due to the short access trail. Bear and Deer are much lonelier, because access requires fording Dorothy’s inlet stream. The bridge is out, so crossing this stream will likely require a 25’-wide knee-deep ford. Bring sandals or footwear suitable for the ford. The ford is not difficult, but the water is cold! If you have them, you might bring neoprene socks if your feet are susceptible to cold water. Also, poles are very useful for fording. Northwest Forest Pass required for parking. Steve LeBrun will act as trip mentor for Dick Lambe for qualification for permanent hike and backpack leader status.
