The Mountaineers own a lodge on top of Mt. Baker in Bellingham, WA with wonderful hiking on a great variety of trails. Or relax with a good book in the quiet setting of the evergreens. Numerous trails are within walking distance or a short drive from the Lodge. Artist Point is just 3 miles away at the end of a paved road with panoramic views of Mt. Baker, Mt. Shuksan, and the North Cascades. Trails usually are completely snow-free by mid-September, giving even inexperienced hikers access to some of the most spectacular scenery in the Pacific Northwest. Early fall provides all the above plus fine blueberry picking, so bring your containers. At night the stars are closer than you've ever seen before! Trail lights from the parking lot to the lodge are on until 10:30 each night. This trip includes breakfast Sat. & Sun. and a hearty dinner Saturday evening after a fun day of hiking and exploring. Bring your own lunch for Saturday on the trail. Not up for hiking? Bringing a good book or laptop and enjoying the slow pace and a quiet getaway is good too. What to bring: A flashlight or headlamp, personal recreational gear, hiking poles, a warm sleeping bag, pillow, your usual personal items and towel. Ear plugs are recommended for light sleepers.
