We will launch from Washington park in Anacortes and take out in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island and wheel our kayaks onto the ferry free of charge! After dinner in Friday Harbor. This is an all day paddle approximately 22 nautical miles that will take us about 8 hours from launch to take out. We will use the currents to our advantage with actual time in the kayak at about 6 hours. Starting at Washington Park we will cross Rosario Straight with the ebb tide and work our way south to the south end of Lopez Island enjoying the rock gardening, sea life and shore birds along the way with a view of the Olympics. As we paddle along the south shore of Lopez Island the currents will be changing and we will time things right to enter Cattle Pass and San Juan Chanel for the flood current to take us to Friday Harbor. This is a SKIV. Wheels are required along with immersion gear and a helmet is recommended. Breaks will be limited and being in the kayak for 2 plus hours at a stretch is to be expected. being comfortable in moving water with eddy lines, boils and standing waves. We can be affected by a west swell coming down the Straight of Juan De Fuca along with a west wind fetch of over 100 nautical miles or a south wind fetch of 20 nautical miles
