Student paddle for SK Basics course, SK-III due to currents. NOAA Chart 18427. Instructional trip will include rescues, towing, intro to moving water, basic navigation, collision avoidance, and group dynamics. Students must be able to paddle for up to two hours between landings, at at least 2 kt. pace, in a single (one-person) sit-inside (closed cockpit) kayak. As this trip will expose you to currents, you will want to already have a degree of comfort and stability paddling sea kayaks. This should not be your very first sea kayak trip ever and the thought of crossing mild eddylines and tide rips should not send you into a panic. Trip will be about 9 nm from Cornet Bay to Skagit and Hope Islands and back. For those who want to rent equipment, kayaks, accessories, and drysuits will be provided and delivered by Kayak Academy. Please call them at 206-527-1825 and talk to Barb Gronseth to secure the rental of your equipment. If you provide your own equipment, make sure it is in good working condition, is seaworthy, with adequate flotation in both ends, and that you are dressed for immersion in cold water (drysuit preferred, though wetsuit+drytop combination or full length [legs+arms] wetsuit is acceptable). Meet at Cornet Bay (Deception Pass State Park) parking lot near hand-launch beach and boat ramp at 9am, ready to launch at 10 am. You will need a Discover Pass to park in the lot. http://discoverpass.wa.gov/ Trip signup is through leader. Contact Brian High [wave.slave-at-yahoo-dot-com] for more information.
