Celebrate the solstice and the first day of Summer 2012 on June 20th with a 20 mile-total pairing of point-to-point traverse hikes. Let's harness the power of the summer sun and the longest day of the year for some strong miles and fun in the sun. Wear bright clothes...black and grey and brown clothes are hereby BANNED for the day. Yellow, orange, pink, lime green and red clothes given extra credit. Special celebration at 7:09 p.m., the official start of summer in the western Hemisphere, and about the expected end-time of the day. Morning will start with the traditional Rattlesnake traverse (10.9 miles), starting up toward the ledges. Then, after a group summer picnic lunch, we'll re-stage cars for an afternoon traverse of Cougar mountain from west to east (approx 9 miles) starting at Wilderness Peak TH and ending at the Coal Creek TH. Preference will be give to hikers wanting to do both traverses, but if you only want to do one, please indicate in the note field when you sign up. Steady moderate pace for the day.
