Leader Notes: The final workshop of the Navigation season is on Monday, March 3, 2008. The next Navigation courses will be held in late October or November 2008.
The Basic Navigation course consists of two parts:
A map & compass workshop at the clubhouse (an evening).
A full day field trip at Heybrook Ridge near Index.
The course is held every year in multiple sessions from October through March. After signing up for and paying for the Course ($35) you should sign up for an evening workshop and all-day field trip. The course is open to both Mountaineer members and non-members who are in reasonable physical condition with an interest in navigation. Note that members may get registration preference in some circumstances. The course is REQUIRED for Seattle basic climbing, Seattle alpine scrambling and Snowshoeing/Winter Travel. Students who complete the course will receive a Navigation card valid for 3 years.
A detailed description of the course, the USGS maps and type of compass required and the homework to be completed before the workshop are found in the GoGuide and at http://www.mountaineers.org/seattle/navigation
The Workshop takes place in the evening at the Mountaineer’s building, 300 3rd Ave W in Seattle-Queen Anne.
