| The Tacoma Mountaineers' Snowshoe course teaches hikers and backpackers how to continue their passion into the snowy season, as well as introducing new Mountaineers - who also may be new to hiking - to the fun of winter hiking. The course is one weeknight evening lecture and one all-day weekend field trip. Course modules include food and clothing for the winter environment, physical conditioning for cold-weather activity, snowshoeing equipment and technique, basic safety considerations for winter mountain travel. Graduation requires completing lecture and field trip plus one additional snowshoe outing. Graduation entitles students to participate in any Tacoma Mountaineers Snowshoe outing as well as Basic Snowshoe or Snowshoe 1 outings with other branches. |
