Description
---
This will be a combination road and trail hike, because the Whiskey Bend road is gated near its start due to winter-time damage that won't be repaired till September 2011. A pleasant 4.5 mile walk with forested views of the soon to be removed Upper Elwha Dam and Lake Mills leads to Whiskey Bend and the start of the Elwha trail. At historic Michaels Cabin, we'll head down the Long Ridge trail to the Elwha Suspension Bridge across the Elwha at Convulsion Canyon, 3 miles from Whiskey Bend. Maximum elevation on this hike is 1300 feet, so the trail should be snow-free from April into November.
