Description
Driving Direction: From the North or South, take Mosquito Lake Road to the gravel pit just North of the Midde Fork Nooksak River, turn East on Forest Service Road 38. About 5 miles turn down to the right to the gated crossing of the river, park here. Approach: Ride or push mountain bikes up the road (definately want mountain bikes for the 7 mile descent) to about 2,600' to a good logging road on the right (continuing uphill on the main road will take you to the gravel pit). Cross a major stream (last reliable water) on a good bridge (walk bikes across bridge), about 1/4 mile further come to a Y, take the left spur uphill (3,200'). Around 3,500' the road will level out and actually drop a bit, you will see the well beaten path on the left, there is an old log partially blocking the trail. Stash bikes here or push higher, the path will eventually open up to better logging roads above. Hike to end of road (switchbacks), climbers trail heads up through the dense brush and trees, eventually reaching taller trees, patch continues up to the ridge. Climb: Pretty much stay on the ridge, generally to the right of the ridge until you have passed the Obelisk, find a thin feature on the face that heads diagnally to the col past the Obelisk, then generally stay on the left side of the ridge until the false summit, where you go directly up the middle (wide chimney) and over the false summit. Good rock all around, many variations for climbing. The rock on N Twin makes for very pleasant climbing. Most parties do not rope up for this climb although some portions are exposed. This is a long day trip!
