Snowshoe:  Winter Camping

UPDATED August 2, 2011

Learn to dig a snow cave, build an igloo, pitch a tent, and create a comfortable camp in the snow. Go on the "Tour de Caves" and admire the creativity of your friends and fellow students. Come with us and learn what a warm and pleasant experience winter camping can be! This course consists of one lecture and one overnight field trip.
Snowshoers, skiers, scramblers, climbers, and snowboarders can learn (1) to camp safely in snow, and (2) to use survival skills to spend the night in severe weather.

Course Structure

One lecture at the Mountaineers Program Center, Magnuson Park. Winter camping & survival techniques, snow cave construction.

One Field Trip: All weekend, Saturday and Sunday,  location and details at lecture.

We have often had to change the destination and/or details because of ski area requirements, weather, roads etc etc, that we now wait until the lecture to issue this information. It is usually  near Mt Baker but do NOT count on it. There have even been times when it was changed AFTER the lecture - those changes are out of our control. Be sure to keep your email address updated and checked regularly at all times.

You can register online via The Mountaineers Home Page or in person at the office in the Program Center, or by mail using the course registration form (available through the office).
