Seattle Mountaineers Home

Learn what to put in your pack, how to dress for comfort and safety, and what to expect on a Mountaineers hike. Experienced Mountaineer hiking leaders will discus clothing, boots, and pack, the Ten Essentials, seasonal trail hazards, where to shop for equipment (and save money), and how to research your hikes.

This seminar is designed to answer questions you, as a beginning hiker or new Mountaineer member, may have about how to get started. We will show samples of our equipment and show pictures of some of our favorite places to hike. Informational handouts are included.

There is NO COST for this seminar! You don't have to be a Mountaineers member to attend.
We strongly encourage sign up for this seminar! This will help your instructor to ensure that enough materials are available.  You may sign up either through the online registration system or by calling The Mountaineers clubhouse directly (206-521-6000).

Handout for the New Hiker Seminar

Seminar is held at Mountaineer Headquarters at Magnuson Park from 6:30 pm-9:00 pm.

If driving, enter park at 74th Street.  Take an immediate left (there is usually a sign that says Mountaineers on the corner).  You will pass a parking lot on the right - and the building is just past the parking lot on the right (Building 67 on Magnuson map).  If you go under an underpass, you have gone a bit too far.
