First Aid and Incident Response
Apr. 23, Wed.-7:00-9:00 p.m. Seattle Clubhouse.
The first of (hopefully) a new series of workshops on topics of special interest to hike leaders.
Have you ever wondered how you, as a hike leader, would be prepared to respond to an illness or injury in the backcountry?
We will cover some basic concepts from the Mountaineering Oriented First Aid course. Topics will include “The Seven Steps” as a framework for responding to first aid incidents in the backcountry, some common first aid issues for hikers (sprains, hypothermia, etc.), how to deal with these issues, and, better yet, some ideas as to how you – the hike leader – can help prevent them in the first place. (Please note: although we will present selected first aid topics of special interest to hike leaders, this one-evening workshop is not intended as a substitute for the comprehensive MOFA course or official refresher.)
This workshop is intended primarily for existing Seattle Branch Hiking Committee trip leaders, but is open to other Mountaineers trip leaders (existing or prospective; other Activities / Branches; etc.) with event Leader's permission.
Limit 30; no fee.
Contact Jon Shields at 206-932-0857 or jon.shields@quidnunc.net for more information. (s4/1-4/18).
Sign up on line from April 1-April 18.
