Mountaineers Sailing Newsletter June 2006 Hello Mountaineers Sailing Crew Members: Welcome to the first issue of the Mountaineers Sailing Newsletter. The Sailing Committee wants to update you about sailing opportunities and news of the Mountaineers Sailing group. We’d also like to get your feedback on what we can do to make the sailing program more fun and build member participation. The Mountaineers Seattle Sailing Branch has just completed the Spring Crew Class and had over 70 students. With our new crew class graduates now added to the Mountaineers crew roster; we look forward to a busy and exciting year ahead with plenty of sail trips. And speaking of sailing... Mountaineers
Sailing has organized three foreign sailing cruises; one to Jim Doub has
chartered a Beneteau 50’ sailboat for a one-week cruise out of Hal Tobie and Paul Liebertz have each
chartered 43 foot Beneteau sailboats for one week cruises along the coast of
Croatia, in the Northeastern Adriatic (southeast of Venice), both leaving
Split, Croatia on September 9. Paul
and Hal expect to travel together and generally dock in port at night. In the past all sails have been listed in the Go-Guide. Unfortunately, the current Go-Guide requires looking ahead up to 60 days in advance. Some skippers have tried adding their last minute sailing trips directly onto the web site but members have not known to go there for this information. So this year we are encouraging our skippers to add new trips as their schedule allows and Crew Members to check the web site often to sign up for these late breaking sailing trips. Adding trips directly onto the web will allow skippers to add trips and only plan 10 to 14 days in advance and allow more flexibility for all. As I write this, some of our offered trips are only partially filled. Folks, these are great boats with space to fill! Go to www.--- for new activity information and to sign up. We would also like to get feedback on how we can make the
Sailing program better and more interesting.
As skippers, we all like sailing and just getting out on the water is
great, but we sometimes forget to look at things from the crew
point-of-view. So our question is,
what would help you as crew? More
