McCord Creek tumbles over Elowah Falls and cascades down a side canyon on its journey to the Columbia River. When the maples drop their golden leaves onto the lush moss-covered boulders and the overcast of a light intermittent rain filters the sunlight, this setting is transformed into one of my most favorite places. The solitude, sights, sounds and freshness of the creek dancing through the forest can only be described by a poet. I’ll just say that in these difficult times, its nice to know that there is a place where everything is just as it should be. John B. Yeon State Park, Oregon; 1999
