Alpine First Aid

Alpine First Aid (AFA) training is provided by Remote Medical International (RMI), a professional provider of remote/wilderness medical training.  AFA is the recommended course for climbers and scramblers.    Classes are offered throughout the year.

This wilderness first aid course is 16 hours and designed to provide elementary skills in remote care. Based on recommendations from the Wilderness Medical Society and evidence-based research, the RMI curriculum focuses on making sound decisions regarding patient evacuation, as well as skills for extended care.  AFA courses are hands on, experiential format providing students with the skills and confidence for making remote medical care decisions. Alpine First Aid is ideal for outdoor recreation enthusiasts, camp staff, remote site workers, and travelers who either work or play away from definitive medical facilities and support.

AFA is taught by practicing wilderness Paramedics, EMTs, and Responders. Instructor experience does matter.  "We know first hand what it is like to be 300 miles out at sea, perched mountain ridge with an ill or injured patient, or working in a flood or earthquake zone." - RMI

Classes are 16 hours in length, held on Saturday and Sunday followed by a separate 3 hour scenario-based practice session (usually held in the evenings).  You need to sign up for 1) the AFA Course, 2) a particular AFA weekend session, 3) and an AFA scenario.
