Sea Kayaking Trip Guest Policy

This is the Seattle Branch policy regarding 'guests' as it applies to Sea Kayaking:

The Mountaineers FAQ states, in part, that guests may participate in two club events in a one-year period and "... are limited to those [activities] that do not require completion of a course."

Sea Kayaking events do have skill prerequisites and our regular trips do require course completion or equivalency, but non-member attendance might be allowed if all of the following conditions are met:

Prospective guests must:

  • Get prior approval of the event or trip leader,
  • Contact the equivalency chairs,
  • Meet minimum equivalency requirements,
  • Pay a $50.00 non-member fee for processing the equivalency application,
  • Pay applicable non-member fees for the event,
  • Have a signed Guest Release and Indemnity Agreement filed with the Mountaineers office prior to the event or trip, and
  • Allow 3-4 weeks application processing time before equivalency status is granted.

This policy was approved by the Seattle Branch Sea Kayaking committee on July 7, 2009.
