If you have been climbing and scrambling for awhile you may
find that you have almost earned a peak pin whether you were
trying to or not. Consider the first ten Snoqualmie Lodge Peaks:
- Chair
- Denny
- Guye
- Kaleetan
- Kendall
- Red
- Silver
- Snoqualmie
- Thompson
- The Tooth
Perhaps you hiked up Silver for training, climbed Denny at
the Snow I field trip, climbed Chair and the Tooth in the Basic
Class, and climbed Snoqualmie in the winter. You are halfway
there!
Why complete the list? There are plenty of reasons. Maybe you
like goals and are looking for trip ideas. Or perhaps you would
like to get to know the Snoqualmie Pass area better. You can
see it during different seasons and from different vantage points.
The peaks become more like old friends than passing acquaintances.
And many of the peaks are scrambles that will give basic graduates
excellent experience in trip planning and route-finding.
Peak pins are awarded each October at our Climbers’ reunion.
You may want to look at the list of all of the Mountaineers
Peak Pins. All of the
branches have interesting lists, not to mention the Five Majors
and Cascade Classics. Peak Pin lists will take you to places
you might have missed. Maybe one catches your eye.
