2007/2008 Ice Climbing Trips and Outings

Howdy Everyone,

We’ve planned a bunch of ice climbing trips for this coming season that we’re looking forward to seeing you on.  These trips are just the seeds to get us all started climbing together.  There will be plenty of informal climbing going on all season, and we hope that you will meet great partners and be out there with us.  Visit the Mountaineers Water Ice Climbing Web Page for a complete list and details.  Be aware that each trip may operate differently, so read the details and contact the trip leader/coordinator for additional details.  The trips will vary in a number of aspects including; (1) 100% group outing vs semi-independent, (2) whether you need to find a partner before joining or not, (3) whether the trip will require you to have a lead capable partner or not (eg; just top roping), (4) what level of experience is required (eg; beginner/intermediate/advanced)

Finding a Partner

A number of you have asked how to go about finding partners for trips.  Here a few practical suggestions…

  1. Contact the leader/coordinator of the trip you’re interested in and let them know that you’re looking for a partner for the trip and what you experience/climbing level is.  They can help you connect with others who are also looking for partners, and help you find a good match.  You can always contact me at jeffstrt@verizon.net and I’ll try to help.  I’m starting to get a more complete picture of everyone in this community and there climbing backgrounds so I may be able to help with partner hook ups.
  2. Post a message on the Mountaineers Climbs and Partners Forum announcing that you are looking for a partner.  Specify the trip, your experience/climbing level, and your requirements (Ex/ maybe you need a lead capable partner)

In the longer term finding partners is all about networking… here few suggestions…

  1. Come to the social events that we host.  They are great ways to meet and get to know potential partners in a relaxed non-mission critical atmosphere.  We just held the “Water Ice Climbing Season Kickoff Mixer” and we had a fairly lively turnout and enjoyed a presentation from Tom Lewis on a few good places to find early season ice.  We will probably have a mid or end of season social of some sort, so stay tuner, we’ll keep you posted.
  2. Attend the courses and seminars that we host.

We’re looking forward to seeing you out there,
