WTA's Trailsfest - July 18th
The Washington Trails Association has a free hiking / backpacking information event called Trailfest will be held on Saturday July18th .

Help with New Member Night!
Volunteers are needed to represent the backpacking committee at the New Member meeting on the first Wednesday of each month.  All backpacking leaders and committee members are volunteers, and we need your help!  More information on what is involved here.

Hikers Potluck
People interested in backpacking can learn more about hiking and backpacking at the Hikers Potluck.

Backpacking Course
The backpacking course will be held on June 1 & 8, 2009.


This is the annual Backpacking Class for the Seattle branch. This comprehensive two evening class teaches principles for safe and enjoyable overnight backcountry trips, and includes discussions of Backpacks, Sleeping Bags & Pads, Cooking & Food, Stoves & Fuel, 10 Essentials, Clothing, Leave No Trace Camping, First Aid & Repair Kit, Trip Planning & Resources, and Maps. The class content is aimed at the novice, but the experienced backpacker may also find it a useful refresher and update of their knowledge. An optional beginning backpacking trip during the summer is part of the course.

Leave No Trace Trainer Course:
This course is designed for anyone who leads backcountry trips, or who just wants to sharpen their Leave No Trace skills. For details, see our ad on the current Leave No Trace web page of The Mountaineer.
