A quiet, blissful way to gain some winter conditioning, snowshoe travel proves a delightful alternative to skiing. Most of the summer's hiking trails turn into excellent snowshoe routes during the snow season. Take a course and learn about equipment, conditioning, avalanche safety and how to camp overnight in the snow. This course is required to participate in trips of a moderate level or above, although equivalency status can be granted for those with the appropriate experience. Contact the committee in your branch for details. Also, those members who have completed either the Basic Climbing Course or Alpine Scrambling Course will be able to participate in all snowshoe trips.
