A new generation of outdoor enthusiasts are being nurtured by The Mountaineers. Our Families & Kids group brings parents and children together to learn about and explore the activities The Mountaineers are famous for. Events range from day hikes in the mountains to family nights on our climbing walls. We also have great opportunities for kids (and adults) to learn more about our natural evironment, as well as incentive programs to keep your kids active all season! Keep an eye out for special family-oriented activities at The Mountaineers lodges as well; they are great places to mingle with other families. Here is a sample of Families & Kids events:

  • Special events in city parks
  • Day hikes
  • Backpacks
  • Rock Climbing
  • Paddles
  • Naturalists
  • Photography
  • Self-guided programs

Members: Children 13 and Under Are Free!
Go to "My Profile" and click on the link "Add a child (13 and under) to your membership." Enter the names of your children and submit them. Once you've done this, you can sign them up for events through our system.

Not a Member but Want to Come Along?
Contact Member Services at 206-521-6001 and we'll help the whole family get signed up for the fun!

Parent's Disclaimer
Not to be confused with kid's camp or other "drop off" programs, Families & Kids events require a parent or guardian to be present. We want parents and children to share their outdoor experiences, and it helps promote healthy lifestyles for everone in the family. Likewise, most activities require adult participants to have a child with them. This helps ensure the safety of the children. Please contact the leader of the event if you have questions or want more details.

We Need Volunteers & Leaders!
We are always looking for parents to get more involved as volunteers and leaders. We offer training opportunities for parents from belaying at rock climbing events to leading hikes and car camps. Contact the chair of your local branch's Families & Kids committee for volunteer opportunities.

Already a Mountaineers Leader?
We welcome veteran volunteers in the organization to help with Families & Kids events, and would love to help you get involved. Again, contact the chair of your local Families & Kids committee for details on volunteer opportunities.
