Why wait?

Here's your chance to be a part of a Northwest tradition over a hundred years in the making! We want you to join us for all your outdoor adventures, whether you hike, bike, ski, sea kayak, snowshoe, backpack or climb.

A membership in The Mountaineers is more than just getting outdoors, however. When you become a Mountaineers member, you join a large community of outdoor enthusiasts and environmentalists whose goal is to explore, preserve and enjoy all the wilderness that the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

A membership in The Mountaineers lasts for one year starting from the time you join. Every member pays an annual dues amount, and the individual trips are almost always free. With over 2,000 activities a year throughout Western Washington and beyond, that's a pretty good deal. We also offer a variety of outdoor classes for members of all experience levels.

Activities
Our outdoor activities are year-round, which means that rain, snow or shine, Mountaineers are out and about. While the majority of our events are in Western Washington, there are often groups heading to Eastern Washington, Oregon, Canada and even a few places farther away. Our volunteer leaders do all the trip planning for you - all you have to do is decide where you want to go. And because we encourage volunteerism, you can become a trip leader and run your own Mountaineers outing.

Courses
Our courses are taught by dedicated members with years of experience. Beginners can accumulate the basic skills they need to enjoy the outdoors safely, and those who are more advanced can polish their techniques in our intermediate and advanced level courses. We'll give you all the information you need to enjoy your new sport safely and smartly.

Many courses are available only to members of The Mountaineers. And when we do offer a course to the public, like navigation or first aid, members receive a substantial discount on the course fee.

Stewardship
The Mountaineers takes its commitment to the environment seriously. As a member, you lend your voice to our efforts to preserve and protect wilderness and natural areas. Our recreational activities have an impact on trails and wilderness, so we also organize work parties to help give something back. Many of our courses also require their students to complete a stewardship component prior to graduation.

Other benefits

  • Each month you will receive a copy of The Mountaineer magazine, filled with feature articles, stunning photography, club news and other interesting reading. The magazine also contains the Go Guide, a printed schedule of current activities.
  • Mountaineers Books publishes the best outdoor guides, narratives and how-to's. Members receive a 20% discount on all current titles when ordering online or through the Mountaineers Bookstore. Mountaineers members also get discounts on maps, software, DVDs and all other books from the bookstore.
  • Online registration makes finding adventure even easier. With just a few clicks, you can search through every activity we offer - and new ones are being added all the time. So whether you're planning ahead for the month, or looking for something to do this weekend, we will help get you outdoors!
  • Automatic monthly dues payments take the bite out of the cost of being a member. By enrolling in this program, you can have a small portion of your dues taken directly out of your checking account every month, instead of having to pay one lump sum. For more information on enrolling in our free auto-deduction program, visit the Enrollment page.
  • Members can check out materials through The Mountaineers Library. Non-members can access the library, but only paying members may check out books, magazines, videos and more.
