May 22 will mark to the day the 50th anniversary of what is regarded by the mountaineering world as one of the most stellar--if not gutsiest--climbing achievements in the history of mountaineering. Join us on this night to hear legendary mountaineer Tom Hornbein, who teamed with Willi Unsoeld to pioneer Mount Everest’s West Ridge route in 1963, talk about the climb with friend and renowned journalist Jon Krakauer. A climb that also notched a first in traversing a major Himalayan peak when Hornbein and Unsoeld crossed over to the South Col on their descent, it is being beautifully represented in print form with a new reissue of Everest: The West Ridge, published by Mountaineers Books. Tom’s classic tale is called one of the “100 Best Adventure Books of All Time” by National Geographic Adventure magazine.
