Alpine Scramble - Marmot Pass & Buckhorn Mountain

Trip

Alpine Scramble - Marmot Pass & Buckhorn Mountain

An opportunity to take a leisurely hike in on Sunday afternoon and get an early start playing on Buckhorn Mountain before the rest of the world is out of bed. This is definitely a "smell the roses" trip.

  • Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 12.6 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,400 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 6,956 ft
  • Pace: 1.5 - 2 MPH

We will meet at the Quilcene Visitor Center and roll out at 12:00 and drive together to the trailhead from there. Carpooling encouraged.

This is a scramble trip for those people who enjoy a bit more relaxed pace.  We will push in to a camping spot near or above Marmot Pass on Sunday, and then go up to Buckhorn Mountain proper the next morning.  While there will not be any large pitches, the tops of Buckhorn can be a cornucopia of little "chutes and ladders" class 2 and 3 scrambles to little peek-a-boo vistas.  This is intended to be a relaxing play date.
