Staying Found: On-Trail Navigation Class. This session is for Mountaineers members who are not enrolled in the Backpacking Building Blocks course and are not qualifying activity leaders.

IF YOU ARE ENROLLED IN THE BACKPACKING BUILDING BLOCKS COURSE OR ARE A QUALIFYING ACTIVITY LEADER, DO NOT REGISTER FOR THIS SESSION - PLEASE REGISTER FOR THE VERSION OF THE COURSE DESIGNATED FOR B3 STUDENTS AND QUALIFYING ACTIVITY LEADERS.  If you are not one of these, register for the General Membership session.

This hands-on field training day, to be held in the Tradition Lake area of Tiger Mountain State Park, will focus on skills and practice to become confident reading a topographic map against the features of the terrain around you, get important information from a compass and altimeter, and maintain a steady awareness of where you are as well as how to find yourself if you get temporarily misplaced.

Required:  Compass with adjustable declination is required (sighting mirror helpful);  Ten Essentials, including warm clothing and raingear; clipboard and pencil; accurate timepiece (digital is best)

Altimeter is recommended but not required
