Conditioning for Hiking and Backpacking

7PM AT THE MOUNTAINEERS SEATTLE PROGRAM CENTER, 7700 SAND POINT WAY, SEATTLE. Learn exercises to strengthen major muscles used during hiking and backpacking; gain mobility, stability, strength and conditioning; build a workout calendar for an effective pre-season training program.

Learn exercises to increase your mobility, stability, and strength to hike or backpack our amazing northwest trails with ease and help prevent unnecessary falls and injuries. 

In this 2-hour hands-on evening class you will learn a training routine tailored for hikers and backpackers.  Teachings include:

  •  Dynamic warm-up techniques
  • Core exercises
  • Lower body exercises
  • A proper  cool down
  • Discussion of appropriate build-up of exercises shown over a one-month period

During the class you will receive a handout that will outline proper progression of sets and repetitions for each exercise taught over a one-month period.  You will also fill out a workout calendar to help keep you on track with your pre-season training program.  All exercises taught in the class can be performed at home or outdoors.   This is a hands on course, so be sure to bring your workout clothes!

Instructor Bio:  

Bio: Sheri Goodwin taught and coached in the Shoreline School district for 13 years before starting her dream business, Transformational Journeys.  She holds a Masters in Education, and a Bachelor’s in Physical Education with an Endorsement in Health from the University of Puget Sound.  Sheri is a Personal Trainer through the National Personal Trainers Institute (NPTI), a Reconnective Healer (RH) and practices Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).  Sheri’s trekking adventures in Europe, Nepal, into Machu Pichu as well as along the Camino de Santiago and Way of St. Frances (Assisi to Rome) have inspired her to help others experience these life-changing journeys!
